Position Summary The Mine Manager is accountable to the Operations Manager for the planning, development and profitable operation of the orebody. The incumbent will ensure the optimal development of the shareholders asset (the orebody) through efficient planning and strictly controlled ore feed to the mill. Subordinates to the position will be accountable for monitoring and directing the performance of the Mining Contractor to ensure that the Contract is effectively and efficiently managed and the mill feed requirements are consistently achieved. The incumbent will provide leadership, development and direction to his subordinate staff to ensure that the business objectives of the Company are consistently achieved. Duties and Responsibilities Management / Leadership * Recruit, develop and retain a National and expatriate operating team consistent with the authorized manning budget which is capable of generating timely, effective and optimal orebody development plans * Select, train and develop suitable National candidates to potentially localize the position within 3-5 years * Lead and mentor key departmental subordinates to ensure that the operational deliverables consistently reach or exceed target in their areas of accountability * Contribute to the Company’s Management Team on a strategic level HSE * Contribute to the development of the Company’s HSE policies and procedures * Ensure that all mining operations are carried out in compliance with Company and national health, safety and environmental guidelines, policies, procedures and legislation * Actively promote the recognition in subordinate staff and contractors that safety of personnel is of the highest priority and cannot be compromised Contract Management * Manage the performance of the Mining Contractor to ensure compliance with the scope, terms, conditions and intent of the Contract * Ensure strict adherence to the daily blending requirements for mill feed * Negotiate the annual Target Price with the contractor Mine Planning * Direct and manage the development of mine plans consistent with the current business plan of the Company * Ensure close liaison with the Mill Operations group to ensure that optimum blending requirements are consistently achieved to meet Plant operational needs * Ensure that all mine plans and schedules are compliant with the requirements of the Mining Contract, are geotechnically sound and do not compromise the safety of the Company’s personnel, capital assets and orebody * Contribute to the development and implement the mine component of an integrated Company business model which ensures optimal economic benefit to the shareholders Financial * Develop operating and capital budget plans consistent with the goals of the business and the direction of the Operations Manager, the General Manager and Board of Directors * Review, report, action and reforecast departmental financial performance on a regular basis which shall be no less than monthly. * Propose and implement authorized operating and capital expenditure strategies that will enhance the financial position of the business * Develop and implement a real time management model to ensure optimal mine operating conditions Exploration/Reserves * Properly manage and monitor the mining reserves and provide data to update the year end 10K report. * Develop a short range and long range exploration plan in line with the company and site strategic goals. * Successfully implement approved exploration plans and exploration capital projects The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive. Accountabilities The position is accountable for: * Safety, health and well being of all subordinate personnel * Optimal development and implementation of mine plans to meet or exceed the objectives of the Company’s business plans * Managing the Mining Contractor to ensure compliance with the Contract and optimizing deliverables for the Company * Liaising with the Mill Operations group to ensure optimal delivery of ore blends on a consistent basis * Tight cost control within approved guidelines * Leading a participative Mine Operations team to recommend and implement enhanced business performance through cost reduction, capacity increase or quality improvement Qualifications · Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related field.Minimum of 15 years experience in mine planning and operations. · Prior experience managing mining contractors preferred · Prior experience in Latin America would be desirable · Proven leadership skills and ability to develop local staff · Ability to communicate in Spanish or a demonstrated commitment to learn a second language · Hands on team management style encouraging participative and entrepreneurial input but with clearly focused business goals · Modest travel both domestically and internationally · Ability to function at high altitudes (~ 4,000 meters) for extended periods E
